D.C. Councilmember Robert White Announces Campaign for Congress
D.C.’s Current Crisis Requires Bold Leadership to Meet the Moment
Washington, D.C. – Today, Councilman Robert White (D-At-Large) announced his intention to file his candidacy for Delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives emphasizing there is no time to waste.
“I am stepping forward to serve my hometown in a time when families across D.C. are afraid and looking for hope, where many parents are watching their government spend millions of dollars a week on National Guard troops, but their children can’t play outside, while federal leaders are using Washington, D.C. as a political pawn, said White, Jr. I’m running for Congress because I want a future where D.C. families can put down roots, build wealth, and live free in the city we love, said White, Jr. I know what it feels like to pack up and move because rent went up again, to watch your neighborhood slip away as prices rise. My family was priced out more than once. I’ve lived the stress that so many Washingtonians feel today.”
Pledging to be a champion for D.C. at the federal level, White, Jr. emphasized his commitment on the future of D.C. and the city’s more than 700,000 residents.
“I’ve dedicated my life to fighting for this city, said White, Jr. From serving as Legislative Counsel to Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton to my nine years on the D.C. Council, my mission has been to make sure D.C. is not just surviving but thriving and in control of its own destiny.”
Furthering his decision as a candidate as Delegate to Congress, White has received strong constituent and local businesses support, citing his consistent advocacy and strong leadership in Washington, D.C.
“Workers’ rights are human rights and right now those fundamental rights are being dismantled and disregarded in unprecedented ways. Robert White is the exact right leader at the exact right time to pick up the torch for effective and vigorous representation of Washington, D.C. in Congress. Labor leaders like me stand ready to make sure Robert’s message to our union members translates into action at the polls in June.” – Kera, D.C. Labor Leader
At this critical time where the District’s future is increasingly vulnerable, Robert White, Jr. pledges to continue the push to secure full representation and voting rights for D.C. residents, by building powerful coalitions within Congress and with national alliances to stop harmful federal interference, and to fight for statehood, ensuring D.C. finally has the same voice as every other city and state in America.
“In Congress, I will fight every day to protect D.C.’s right to govern ourselves and to secure statehood so we finally have the same voice as every other American, said White, Jr. I will build coalitions, block harmful federal interference, and deliver resources that move our city forward. We are at a turning point, and I believe D.C.’s best days are ahead. I’m running to make sure no one is left behind in the city’s future not renters, not working families, not seniors.”
As Delegate to Congress, Robert White, Jr. will relentlessly fight for everyday Washingtonians, focusing on three urgent priorities:
